"Never let a problem to be solved become more important than a person to be loved." - Barbara Johnson

After earning his BA from Utah State University, John went on to Brigham Young University to earn his Masters of Social Work. He is an approved supervisor for interning social workers. John has been practicing in the mental health field for twenty-five years, specializing in addictions, attachment, mood disorders, trauma-related disorders, experiential work, and therapist training. John developed an effective trauma model for families who suffer from PTSD. He served as the clinical director at our New Haven program for ten years, and was most recently its executive director for the past five years.

Before New Haven, John developed and managed intensive outpatient and general outpatient programs for drug and alcohol services. He worked for ten years at a private, non-profit drug and alcohol agency as a therapist, clinical director, and an executive director where he was engaged in doing therapy, training interns and professionals, and developing programs. In addition, he developed and directed Crisis Line services prior to involvement in the mental health field.

John has been involved in community-based youth organizations for the past thirty years. John had the privilege of serving on the Board of the National Association of Therapeutic Schools and Programs (NATSAP). He is fortunate to be married to a wonderful woman, with whom he has three sons, a great daughter-in-law, and the cutest grandsons ever born. John loves to travel and be in the outdoors, camp with his kids, and is a geography wizard. He is a fantastic cook.

Of special note, John received NATSAP’s 2015 Lifetime Leadership Award at its national conference held in Nashville, Tennessee.
